Nous regardons encore la météo, hauteur de vague maximum: 1m et peu de vent. On y va, il est 10 h 40. Nous disons au revoir à Eveline, Tim et Max, nous avons été vraiment contents de faire leur connaissance. Eux pensent partir demain ou après demain. Et nous garderons un souvenir spécial de Calvi où nous étions avec Catherine puis Nina et Theo. Nous sortons de la baie et Maja commence à rouler. Ce sont de vieilles vagues qui viennent de loin, elles sont longues et arrondies, plutôt comme de la houle, pas hautes (60-80 cm) mais pour Maja cela suffit. Les deux premières heures, cela bouge beaucoup puis cela se calme un peu. Je me paye une petite séance de mal de mer, malgré la pilule prise avant de partir, je me couche et dors presque deux heures puis ça va. En fait les deux premières heures sont les pires et je dors, c’est très bien, après nous avons une très bonne traversée. Nous entendons un échange radio entre le port et Lady Luck, le mega-yacht qui était dans le port à Calvi. Le gars du port leur demande leur destination : Gibraltar. Puis le nombre de passagers : zéro et le nombre d’équipage : treize. Il faut dire que Lady Luck se loue à la semaine et que cela coute 300 000 €, je l’ai googlé. La houle arrive d’abord du nord, de droite pour nous, puis cela change et elle arrive du sud, de gauche. Mais la mer est parfois lisse et houleuse à la fois. Nous avançons bien, moteur et grand-voile pour stabiliser, il y a très peu de vent, presque de face. Jens fait une sieste, nous dinons d’une soupe andalouse rallongée d’une boite de petits pois. Très beau coucher de soleil et lever de lune. Puis nous commençons nos quarts à 20 h. Je me couche et Jens barre. A 22 h nous changeons. La nuit est belle, pleine lune, assez calme et nous dormons bien. A un moment, Jens ne comprend plus ce qui arrive. Il voit des « bateaux », loin, avec des lumières rouges et vertes qui apparaissent et disparaissent. Et rien sur l’AIS. En fait les « bateaux » sont des avions qui atterrissent à l’aéroport de Nice ! Pendant mon quart de 2 h à 4 h, la vitesse tombe à 2 nœuds, de petites vagues de face nous freinent, alors j’accélère un peu. Je vois les lumières de France quand je prends mon quart à 6 h. Et pendant ce quart, nous allons à 6,5 nœuds, avec le même régime de moteur, il doit y avoir un courant qui nous aide. Le soleil se lève et nous approchons des iles d’Hyères. C’est dimanche et de nombreux bateaux sont sur l’eau, beaucoup font de la plongée. Nous prenons un bon petit-déjeuner à 9 h et arrivons à Porquerolles à 11 h. J’appelle la marina, mais pas de réponse, donc nous nous mettons à une place vide sur un ponton. Je descends le pavillon corse puis Ankerdram, iced tea, et nous allons à terre. Beaucoup de monde, beaucoup de vélos. Nous achetons une bonne carte à l’Office du tourisme, avec les sentiers de randonnées pour marcheurs et cyclistes. Porquerolles mesure 7,5 km de long sur 3 de large, est boisée, a de jolies plages et est un parque naturel. Peu de voiture, 350 habitants l’hiver et des milliers l’été. Nous allons nous baigner sur une longue plage déserte et quatre personnes arrivent pendant que nous sommes dans l’eau, la plage fait bien 100 m mais ils se mettent à 4 m de nous ! Bon lunch au bateau, le pain est bon ici, petite promenade et diner à une pizzeria qui a une belle vue sur Hyères, la ville en face, au nord. Bonne pizza, bon dessert (tarte tatin) mais addition salée. L’ile est calme maintenant, de nombreux visiteurs sont repartis.

We look again at the weather forecast, maximum wave height 1m and little wind. Let's go, it's 10:40 am. We say goodbye to Eveline, Tim and Max, we were really happy to meet them. They think of leaving tomorrow or after tomorrow. We'll keep fond memories of Calvi where we were with Catherine, then with Nina and Theo. We leave the bay and Maja starts rolling. These are old waves coming from far away, they are long and rounded, rather like a swell, not tall (60-80 cm) but this is enough to make Maja roll. The first two hours, it moves a lot and then it calms down a bit. I am a little seasick despite a pill taken before leaving, I lie down and sleep for almost two hours and then I’m OK. In fact the first two hours are the worst and I was sleeping, that's fine, after that we have a very good crossing. We hear a radio exchange between Calvi port and Lady Luck, the mega-yacht that was in Calvi. The guy from the port asks their destination: Gibraltar. Then the number of passengers: zero and the number of crew: thirteen. It must be said that Lady Luck is rented by the week and it costs € 300,000, I googled it. The first wave arrives to the north, from the right to us, then it changes and they come from the south, from the left. But the sea is sometimes smooth and with a swell at the same time. We're making good progress, engine and mainsail to stabilize, there is very little wind, almost in front. Jens takes a nap, we dine of an Andalusian soup extended with a can of peas. Beautiful sunset and moonrise. Then we start our watches at 8 pm, I lie down and Jens is steering bar. At 10 pm we change. The night is beautiful, full moon, pretty quiet and we sleep well. At one point, Jens does not understand what is happening. He sees "boats" far away, with red and green lights, that appear and disappear. And nothing on the AIS. In fact the "boats" are planes landing at Nice airport! During my shift from 2 to 4 am, the speed drops to 2 knots, small waves coming in front slow us, then I accelerate a bit. I see the lights of France when I take my watch at 6 am. And during this watch, we're making 6.5 knots, with the same engine speed, there must be a current that helps us. The sun rises and we are approaching the islands of Hyères. It is Sunday and many boats are on the water, many people are diving. We take a good breakfast at 9 am and get in Porquerolles at 11 am. I call the marina, but no answer, so we dock in an empty place on a pontoon. I take down the Corsican flag and we take a good Ankerdram, an iced tea, and we go to land. Many people, many bicycles. We buy a good map at the tourist office, with hiking trails for walkers and cyclists. Porquerolles is 7.5 km long and 3 wide, is forested, has beautiful beaches and is a natural park. Few car, 350 inhabitants in winter and thousands in summer. We go for a swim on a long deserted beach and four persons arrive while we're in the water, the beach is at least 100m long but they choose to sit 4m from us! Good lunch at the boat, the bread is good here, walk and dinner in a pizzeria that has a beautiful view of Hyères, the city opposite on the north. Good pizza, good dessert (tarte tatin, a kind of apple pie) but the bill is rather high. The island is quiet now, many visitors left.
