Il fait gris, venteux et
frais, pas encore le grand beau temps. Nous lavons du linge, le port a une
machine professionnel de 10 kg, et on sèche sur le bateau, en surveillant les
nuages. Jens a discuté longuement hier soir avec le chef de port. Il lui a
raconté que les habitants de l’ile de Skyros s’entendent bien et font beaucoup
de choses en commun. Par exemple, ce sont eux qui sont propriétaires du ferry
qui fonctionne sans subventions. Le port aussi est communal et il a expliqué à
Jens qu’il ne veulent pas devenir une marina, ils pourraient faire payer plus
mais les règles sont compliquées. Ce matin, nous marchons sur le port et rencontrons
le sous-chef du port. Il a ce travail depuis deux semaines, c’est tout nouveau
pour lui. Avant, il habitait Thessaloniki et avait une entreprise de portes et
fenêtres qui a fait faillite avec la crise. Il a eu le travail ici et, d’accord
avec sa femme, ils sont venus vivre sur Skyros. Il pense que c’est mieux ici
pour sa fille de 8 ans, vie plus simple et sûre. Il nous dit que le port et ses
aménagements sont en fait l’œuvre du chef de port, avec l’accord de la
communauté, il est ici depuis 10 ans. Nous prenons un café grec (avec le marc
en prime) à la boulangerie puis allons en vélo à la plage, à 1,5 km. Ce n’est
pas loin, mais ça monte raide et descend de même. Un faible rayon de soleil
mais l’eau est bonne, presque 20 ⁰. Un homme reste dans l’eau longtemps, son chien, qui ne
veut pas aller dans l’eau, vient nous voir, très sympa. Jens parle avec ce gars
qui est le chef des pompiers de l’ile. Il dfit qu’il se baigne toute l’année.
Lui aussi dit beaucoup de bien du chef du port. Retour au bateau, un voilier
français arrive, lunch et il se met à pleuvoir, heureusement la lessive est
sèche. Jens reste dehors … avec un parapluie. La pluie s’arrête vite, nous
allons faire un petit tour en vélo, il fait gris, nous voyons une plage mais
elle n’est pas si bien que la nôtre. Nous faisons une boucle plus longue pour
rentrer mais moins raide et allons nous baigner à notre plage où nous avons,
enfin, un rayon de soleil. Diner sympa à la taverna la plus proche de Maja.
Nous avons du poisson servi avec des légumes grillés, oignons, deux sortes de poivrons et courgettes, c’est
bon et léger. Le dessert est une pomme crue arrosée de sirop. On est aux
premières loges pour voir le ferry arriver, accompagné de la symphonie qui est
en fait jouer par un restaurant à terre. Jens trouve le vin bon et en achète un
kilo et demi ! Le vin est mesuré en kilo ici.

It's gray, windy and
cool, not yet the Greek sommer weather. We wash our cloths, the port has a
professional machine that takes 10 kg, and we dry it on the boat, watching the
clouds. Jens discussed at length last night with the port manager. He told him
that the inhabitants of the island of Skyros get along and do a lot of things
in common. For example, they who are the owners of the ferry that operates
without subsidies. The port is also communal and he explained to Jens that he
does not want to become a marina, they could charge more but the rules are
complicated. This morning, we walk on the port and meet the second harbor
master. He has this job for two weeks, this is all new to him. Before, he lived
in Thessaloniki and had a windows and doors company that went bankrupt with the
crisis. He got the job here and, in agreement with his wife, they came to live
on Skyros. He thinks it's better here for their 8 year old daughter, simpler
and safer life. He tells us that the port and its facilities are in fact the
work of the port manager, with the agreement of the community, he has been here
for 10 years. We take a Greek coffee (with the coffee grounds in the cup) at the bakery then ride to the beach, 1.5 km
away. It's not far, but it goes up steeply and down the same wayl. A small ray
of sunshine but the water is good, almost 20 ⁰. A man remains in the water a long time, his dog,
which doesn’t like water, comes to see us, very friendly. Jens talks with this
guy who is the fire chief of the island. He tells Jens that he swims all the year.
He also spoke highly of the harbor master. Return to the boat, a French boat
arrives, lunch and it starts to rain, fortunately the laundry is dry. Jens
stays out ... with an umbrella. The rain stops soon, we're going for a ride, it
is gray, we see a beach but it's not so good as ours. We make a longer loop to
return but less steep and go to swim at our beach where we finally get sunshine.
A nice dinner at the nearest taverna. We have fish served with grilled
vegetables, onions, two kinds of peppers and zucchini, it’s good and light.
Dessert is a raw apple with syrup. We are in a good position to see the ferry
arrive, accompanied by the symphony which is actually played by a restaurant
ashore. Jens likes the wine at the taverna and buys a kilo and a half of it ! The
wine is measured in kilo here.
