21.03.2016 Knidos

Nous partons à 9 h 15, beau temps, peu de vent. Nous allons d’abord sud, passons le cap Ince, longeons la côte qui est sauvage et déserte, passons le cap Divan et remontons un peu nord-ouest vers Knidos. Traversée calme, au moteur, avec un très léger vent en face. Nous rentrons dans la baie de Knidos et nous nous mettons au long ponton. Nous déjeunons, il est 14 h et allons à terre. Un homme nous dit qu’en hiver le ponton est gratuit et que le restaurant est fermé. Il propose de téléphoner pour que le cuisinier vienne, mais on le remercie, on a ce qui faut pour faire le diner. Nous payons 10 TL par personne et avons ces ruines magnifiques pour nous tout seuls. Knidos était une ville et un port important du temps des Grecs et après, du quatrième siècle avant J.C jusqu’au septième siècle après J.C. La presqu’ile qu’on voit sur le plan était, à cette époque, une ile. La ville avait deux ports, l’un miltaire (à l’ouest) et l’autre commercial (à l’est, où nous sommes). Plusieurs milliers de personnes vivaient là, et c’est émouvant de penser à la vie qu’ils menaient, avec les mêmes plaisirs et soucis que nous, famille, enfants, santé … Nous y passons deux heures puis rentrons au bateau. Le guide (le livre) dit que, l’été, la baie grouille de bateaux et les ruines de touristes, et nous nous avons tout cela au calme, seuls. Quel luxe. Blog, bricolage et un vieux Guardian pour Jens, puis diner dedans, il fait un peu frais. Après diner, nous prenons notre petit verre sur la terrasse, pardon, dans le cockpit, par un beau clair de lune et à 20 h 30, nous voyons un voilier arriver et ancrer dans la baie.

We leave at 9:15 am, good weather, little wind. We go south first, pass the cape Ince, follow the coast which is wild and deserted, pass cape Divan and turn a little northwest to Knidos. Calm crossing, motoring, with a very light wind in front of us. We enter the Bay of Knidos and we dock along the jetty. We lunch, it is 2 pm and go ashore. One man tells us that in winter the pontoon is free and the restaurant is closed. He proposes to call for the cook to come, but we thank him, we have what we need to make dinner. We pay 10 TL per person and have these beautiful ruins to ourselves. Knidos was a big city and an important harbor in the time of the Greeks ans after, from the fourth century before J.C. until the seventh century after J.C. The peninsula we see on the plan was, at that time, an island. The city had two harbors, one was for the military (west) and the other one commercial (east, where we are). Several thousands people lived there, and it's moving to think about the life they led, with the same pleasures and worries that we have, family, children, health ... We spend two hours in the ruins and then go back to Maja. The guide (the book) says that, in summer, the bay is teeming with boats and the ruins with tourists, and we have it all just for us. What a luxury. Blog, DIY and an old Guardian for Jens, then we dine inside, it's a bit chilly. After dinner, we take our little drink on the terrace, sorry, in the cockpit, with a beautiful full moon and at 8:30 pm, we see a sailboat coming and anchoring in the bay.
